Maps of the parish

North Yorkshire Council website

A number of maps are available on the North Yorkshire Council website. Click on type of map you want below and zoom in to the area of interest. Note that some are very large maps covering the whole of North Yorkshire, so may take a few seconds to download.

General map (opens in a new tab) based on Ordnance Survey maps. The layers icon at the top right can be used to show public rights of way and you can zoom right in to see house names.
Lidar map (opens in a new tab) has a split screen with map/aerial view and lidar view. Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) measures the height of the ground surface and other features over an area to produce a 3D representation of the area. Use the Search button on the left to find the location you want to examine and use the Settings icon to change the map type and lidar type - DTM shows the ground surface with all natural and man-made features removed, DSM shows top of all natural and man-made features.
Common Land and Village Green (opens in a new tab). Note that their are 2 areas of Common Land in the parish: Two Acre quarry to the east of Flat Top Farm where parishioners were given the right to take building stone and an area in Terrington Carr where parishioners were allowed to cut peat. The Open Spaces Society has information on the status of village greens.
Conservation areas (opens in a new tab). Select the parish of interest.

Various other maps

Defra Magic (opens in a new tab). You can display a large number of layers to show classification of landscape, agricultural use, geology, biodiversity, protected areas, etc.
Natural England Ancient Woodland map (opens in a new tab).
Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Inventory (opens in a new tab).
Land Registry Cadastral Parcels (opens in a new tab). This shows the extent of each freehold property. It has a split screen with a moveable divider with aerial view on the left and map of cadastral parcels on the right. The maps starts in the London area so you need to move to the area of interest and zoom in.
