The following directories give some general information about the village, and list the gentry, people in trades and crafts, and farmers. Those in Terrington, Ganthorpe and Mowthorpe are generally listed separately. Censuses usually show more people in trades and crades than in the directories which omit working family members, apprentices and many of the women dressmakers, for example.
